{"id":1144,"date":"2006-09-03T14:16:00","date_gmt":"2006-09-03T21:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=1144"},"modified":"2016-04-04T11:28:45","modified_gmt":"2016-04-04T18:28:45","slug":"washington-post-article","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=1144","title":{"rendered":"Washington Post Article"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; The recent church departures in the PC(USA) have hit the<br \/>\nnational press with a review article from the Washington Post.&nbsp; I<br \/>\ndidn&#8217;t see anything new in the articles, other than the fact that it<br \/>\nwas in a newspaper from a city that did not currently (to my knowledge<br \/>\nand their reporting) have a church looking at leaving.&nbsp; And the<br \/>\narticle did not make the distinction about the Los Angeles cases that<br \/>\nthose are divided congregations not congregations united in departing<br \/>\nthe PC(USA).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; One other thing different about the article was the large<br \/>\nnumber of quotes from Jerry Van Marter from the PC(USA) news<br \/>\nservice.&nbsp; Previous articles have relied mostly on PC(USA) press<br \/>\nreleases.&nbsp; However, Jerry does say that &#8220;&#8230; he could not recall<br \/>\none instance in which the denomination lost a legal dispute with a<br \/>\ncongregation over church property.&#8221;&nbsp; I guess they don&#8217;t consider<br \/>\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=1148\" target=\"_blank\">Ridgebury Presbyterian Church<\/a> case from Orange County, New York, settled yet.<\/p>\n<p>The full article is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/09\/01\/AR2006090101506.html\" target=\"_blank\">Presbyterians fight for custody of the church<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings, &nbsp;&nbsp; The recent church departures in the PC(USA) have hit the national press with a review article from the Washington Post.&nbsp; I didn&#8217;t see anything new in the articles, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1144","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
