Business sessions convened yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 20 June, and will continue through Friday afternoon, as needed.<\/p>\n<p>The Assembly meeting is being\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">live streamed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of information online, most linked through the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Documents page<\/a> and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GA 2018 page<\/a>. Here are some of the links for information about Assembly business and operation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Schedule<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018documents\/#dockets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Docket<\/a> (being issued in daily segments) so you know when the business sessions are and what is being covered.<\/li>\n<li>There is also the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2018documents\/#handbook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Commissioners Handbook<\/a> by parts or as a full download from that page.<\/li>\n<li>Also keep an eye on the <a href=\"https:\/\/epconnection.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EP Connection News Blog<\/a>\u00a0for news items from the Assembly.<\/li>\n<li>And don&#8217;t forget the current <a href=\"http:\/\/epcoga.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/4-Resources\/5-Downloadable-EPC-Resources\/A-Constitution-Doctrine\/BookOfOrder2016-17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Book of Order<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2018\/Other-Documents\/38GADocument-RulesForAssembly.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rules for Assembly<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for social media, there is a bit of that out there. There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EPChurch?ref=br_tf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook page<\/a> for the EPC that is currently being updated regularly with Leadership Institute and Assembly items. The official EPC Twitter feed is <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/epchurch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@EPChurch<\/a> and the active official hashtag (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/epc2018ga?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#epc2018ga<\/a>) has sprung to life. There is also a feed for EPC Student Ministries (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/EPCStudentMin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@EPCStudentMin<\/a>), EPC World Outreach (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/epcwo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@EPCWO<\/a>) and the Stated Clerk Jeff Jeremiah (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Jeff_Jeremiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Jeff_Jeremiah<\/a> ) -but none has been active for a while. In addition, you can follow the host church at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hope4memphis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Hope4Memphis<\/a>, but again, not a really active account.<\/p>\n<p>I would also mention Ligon Duncan (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ligonduncan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@LigonDuncan<\/a>),\u00a0Chancellor and CEO, Reformed Theological Seminary, who has been hanging around the Assembly and will be the speaker for this evening&#8217;s worship. I am looking forward to the live stream of that.<\/p>\n<p>As for individuals, strong live tweeting going from Matthew Everhard (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/matt_everhard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@matt_everhard<\/a>), Zach Hopkins (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Zhop59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Zhop59<\/a>), Doug Resler (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dougresler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@dougresler<\/a>), EPC Presbyter (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/epc_presbyter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@epc_presbyter<\/a>), and David D. Feiser (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therevdocdfeis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@therevdocfeis<\/a>). And if you want a bit more color and correction check out Decent &amp; In Order (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Decent_Orderly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Decent_Orderly<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the Assembly is Forward! based on Philippians 3:13-14.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that the prayer, fasting and efforts to free Pastor\u00a0Andrew Brunson from imprisonment in the nation of Turkey continue, and are highlighted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2018\/Committee-Reports\/38GAReport-StatedClerk.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stated Clerk&#8217;s Report<\/a> under the heading &#8220;Praying and Advocating for One of our Own.&#8221; He also notes that &#8220;An increasing amount of my time has been invested in Andrew\u2019s situation&#8230;&#8221; and is thankful for his connections in Washington, D.C., with government officials to keep the issue before them and help advocate for his release.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of items of business stand out. One is a <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2018\/Commissioners-Handbook\/Matters-Received\/GA38-04-RecommendationFromInterimCommitteeOnMinisterialEducation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommendation from the\u00a0Ad Interim Committee on Ministerial Education<\/a> to substantially modify and expand the section of the Book of Order on the Ruling Elder as Commissioned Pastor (9-11).<\/p>\n<p>In a final report from the preliminary report and proposed draft last year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2018\/Commissioners-Handbook\/Matters-Received\/GA38-03-RecommendationFromInterimCommitteeOnPastoralLetter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ad Interim Committee on Pastoral Letter is recommending<\/a> the\u00a0proposed \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2018\/Other-Documents\/38GADocument-PastoralLetterHumanSexuality.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pastoral Letter on Human Sexuality<\/a>\u201d be adopted by the Assembly.
