First up, the <a href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/gao\/ga2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 General Assembly<\/a> of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Presbyterian Church in Canada<\/a> is underway. It convened yesterday with worship and the installation of their <a href=\"https:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/gao\/moderator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new Moderator<\/a>. And it is being held online this year after being canceled last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting will continue through Wednesday 9 June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few things to know to help follow along:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLTDwb7caO0LorAaKJyJtzmWgWEEJIOvzN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">live streaming<\/a> of the Assembly meetings on the YouTube channel and the recordings are archived there.<\/li><li>The Assembly will be using the PC-Biz platform for tracking business and it is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/assembly.presbyterian.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">assembly.presbyterian.ca<\/a>.<\/li><li>With the reports on PC-Biz it does not appear there is a downloadable Book of Reports this year but from the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/assembly.presbyterian.ca\/#\/resources\" target=\"_blank\">PC-Biz Resources Tab<\/a> you can download the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pccan.s3.amazonaws.com\/Uploads\/69a283a4-1c0d-4e3e-95b7-e7171edbceba\/Summaries_of_Reports.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Summaries of Reports<\/a> and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pccan.s3.amazonaws.com\/Uploads\/96c719c9-5e2a-430e-bf41-465762eb268f\/Daily_schedule_GA2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">GA Schedule<\/a>.  A <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pccan.s3.amazonaws.com\/Uploads\/cb975afd-1b86-403e-840c-0c01e1b767b6\/Provisional_Agenda_-_2021_General_Assembly.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Provisional Agenda<\/a> and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pccan.s3.amazonaws.com\/Uploads\/3132956d-3eb7-4d24-903d-13ed015d42b0\/Practice_and_Procedures.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Practice and Procedures<\/a> can also be found there. But note the caution on the Practice and Procedures cover that it presumes an in-person Assembly and some sections may not apply to an online meeting.<\/li><li>Official news updates are available on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/category\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\">news feed<\/a> and that includes the highlights from each day. We can probably expect a follow-up after the meeting in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/resources\/#pcconnect\" target=\"_blank\">PC Connect e-newsletter<\/a>.<\/li><li>The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/general-assembly-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">General Assembly Resources page<\/a> is where you will find the important doctrine and governance documents including the <a href=\"https:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/downloads\/48677\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book of Forms<\/a> and a link to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/download\/aandp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Acts and Proceedings page<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.gajunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/GA2021_logo_adjusted-300x296-1.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.gajunkie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/GA2021_logo_adjusted-300x296-1.gif?resize=300%2C296&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3652\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theme for the meeting is &#8220;Do Not Fear, I Am With You&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Assembly can be followed on social media through the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pcconnect\" target=\"_blank\">PCConnect Facebook page<\/a> and through their official Twitter feed <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/pcconnect\" target=\"_blank\">@PCConnect<\/a>. The hastag for the meeting is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/pccga2021?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\">#pccga2021<\/a>. And maybe there will be pictures on the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pcconnect\/albums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PC Connect Flickr feed<\/a> although an online Assembly is not as photogenic as an in-person one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Twitter traffic is fairly light so far, but a bit of traffic including from Daniel Scott the new Moderator (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScottDdscott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@ScottDdscott<\/a>). In addition, his congregation St John&#8217;s Bradford West Gwillimbury (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StJohnsBWG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@StJohnsBWG<\/a>) and his son Jonathan Scott (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/J_Scott_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@J_Scott_<\/a>) have been tweeting. Pleased to see that another GA veteran John Borthwick (<a aria-label=\"@jborthwik (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jborthwik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@jborthwik<\/a>) is tweeting. And some commenting from Kristine O&#8217;Brian (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bloomingrev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@bloomingrev<\/a>) and John Borthwick&#8217;s congregation St. Andrew&#8217;s Guelph (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/standrewsguelph\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@standrewsguelph<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last few years, the continuing discussion has been on human sexuality and what path the church is going to take. The process towards inclusion has been moving forward and there has been a team crisscrossing the country that has been listening to stories from those in the church. They will be reporting and it is anticipated that apologies will be adopted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In related actions, the Bills and Overtures committee reports there are 30 overtures related to Gracious DIsmissal from churches concerned with the direction of the denomination. The recommendation from Bills and Overtures is that they be referred to the Assembly Council, in consultation with the Clerks of Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other topic which is currently in the news is the history of the residential schools some of which were run by the Presbyterian Church. The Assembly will include times of apology and lament for that history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So prayers and best wishes for the members of the 146th General Assembly and as they address issues so difficult, but so important to the future witness of the church.
