Business sessions convene at 4 PM Wednesday afternoon, 22 June, and will continue through Friday afternoon, as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Assembly meeting will be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">live-streamed<\/a> on the web. This will include not just the business sessions but the plenary talks of the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022leadershipinstitute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leadership Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a lot of information online, most linked through the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Documents page<\/a> and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GA 2022 page<\/a>. Please note the embargo statement at the top of the Documents page about posting the documents elsewhere before the Assembly concludes. Here are some of the links for information about Assembly business and operation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There are the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schedule<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022documents\/#dockets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Docket<\/a> (being issued in daily segments) so you know when the business sessions are and what is being covered.<\/li><li>There is also the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2022\/CommissionersHandbook\/GA42CommissionersHandbook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Commissioners Handbook<\/a> as a full download or <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022documents\/#handbook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by parts<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Documents page<\/a>. <\/li><li>Also, keep an eye on the <a href=\"https:\/\/epconnection.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EP Connection News Blog<\/a>\u00a0for news items from the Assembly.<\/li><li>And don&#8217;t forget the current <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/4-Resources\/5-Downloadable-EPC-Resources\/A-ConstitutionDoctrine\/BookOfOrder2020-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book of Order<\/a> which now also contains the Rules for Assembly.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for social media, there is a bit of that out there. There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EPChurch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Facebook page<\/a> for the EPC that is currently being updated regularly with Leadership Institute and Assembly items. The official EPC Twitter feed is <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/epchurch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@EPChurch<\/a> and the active official hashtag (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/epc2022ga?src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#epc2022ga<\/a>) has sprung to life. There are other official but inactive Twitter accounts for EPC Student Ministries (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/EPCStudentMin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@EPCStudentMin<\/a>), the International Theological Education Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ItenEPC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@ItenEPC<\/a>), and EPC World Outreach (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/epcwo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@EPCWO<\/a>) so not much to follow there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for individuals, we have activity from Zach Hopkins (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Zhop59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@Zhop59<\/a>) and Joey Sherrard (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jhsherrard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@jhsherrard<\/a>) has checked in as well. There is also activity from a former Moderator Case Thorp (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/casethorp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@casethorp<\/a>). Others at the meeting include Pete Scribner (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeteScribner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@PeteScribner<\/a>), David Goetz (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidmgoetz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@davidmgoetz<\/a>), Joel Keen (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/keener_jm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@keener_jm<\/a>), and Dan Rose (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danielmrose\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@danielmrose<\/a>).  And we are seeing the usual color and correction from Decent &amp; In Order (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Decent_Orderly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@Decent_Orderly<\/a>) and another entry in the commentary category, chreeha (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chreeha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@chreeha<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theme of the Assembly is &#8220;Recharge,&#8221; based on Acts 1:8 &#8211; &#8220;But you will receive power&#8230;&#8221; The theme will be reflected in the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/ga\/ga2022\/#worship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worship services<\/a> throughout the meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a good <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2022\/CommissionersHandbook\/2-MattersReceived\/GA42Document-SummaryOfActionItems.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">summary of all the action items<\/a> coming to the Assembly this year. One of the interesting items is from the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/2022report-theology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Theology Committee<\/a> which at the last Assembly was asked to consider whether virtual communion is permissible under the standards of the church. During the pandemic, a temporary decision was made that communion could be shared virtually but that permission has now expired. The Theology Committee has studied the issue and in a <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Files\/2-What-We-Do\/2-General-Assembly-Meeting\/2022\/CommitteeReportAttachments\/42GAReport-TheologyCommitteeResponseToGA4131.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two-page report<\/a> concludes that it is not permissible saying in the conclusion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The consistent witness of Scripture, our constitution, and confessional standards is that the proper context for administering the Lord\u2019s Supper is the physical gathering of God\u2019s people, where the elements are given and received according to Christ\u2019s command.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the items that the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/2022report-nlt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Leadership Team<\/a> brings to the Assembly is one regarding racial conciliation. As their report says &#8220;It has been placed on the heart of many and brought to our attention by others that the EPC should speak to the issue of race more definitively.&#8221; The action item is: &#8220;The NLT recommends that the 42nd General Assembly approve the establishment of a Moderator-appointed Ad Interim Committee to write a Pastoral Letter of Racial Lament and Hope.&#8221; Their report goes on to describe the vision: &#8220;This is not in response to any particular incident, but instead a carefully considered work in the course of perhaps two years to speak the truth of the Bible regarding race.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another action item from the National Leadership Team is to change the funding model for the national church by approving a &#8220;transition from \u201cPMA\u201d Per Member Asking to \u201cPOI\u201d Percentage of Income as the Future Funding Initiative.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fraternal Relations Committee brings an interesting action item to evaluate their relationship with the <a href=\"http:\/\/wcrc.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Communion of Reformed Churches<\/a> and possibly change their affiliation to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wrf.global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Reformed Fellowship<\/a>. I will let the text of the discussion in the <a href=\"https:\/\/epc.org\/2022report-fraternalrelations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fraternal Relations Committee report<\/a> speak for itself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The Committee would like permission to evaluate whether or not continuing membership of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) is appropriate for the EPC. At one time, our membership in WCRC made it easier for congregations departing from other denominations to be transferred into the EPC. In addition, some \u201cgracious dismissal\u201d agreements contained reversion clauses requiring that departing churches must stay in denominations affiliated with WCRC for a certain number of years. Most of these reversion clauses have now expired. Given the EPC\u2019s membership in the theologically more conservative World Reformed Fellowship, we believe it is time for the situation to be evaluated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it is worth noting that in the opening business session this afternoon Ruling Elder Rosemary Lukens of Gig Harbor, Washington, was <a href=\"https:\/\/epconnection.org\/2022\/06\/22\/rosemary-lukens-elected-moderator-of-42nd-general-assembly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elected and installed<\/a> as the Moderator of the 42nd General Assembly. Our congratulation and prayers for RE Lukens as she undertakes this service.
