{"id":377,"date":"2010-09-21T17:19:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-22T00:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=377"},"modified":"2010-09-21T17:19:00","modified_gmt":"2010-09-22T00:19:00","slug":"reorganization-of-the-national-office-of-the-presbyterian-church-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=377","title":{"rendered":"Reorganization Of The National Office Of The Presbyterian Church In Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In these challenging economic times Presbyterian branches are wrestling with what it means to be connectional and then how do we pay for it.&nbsp; Last Saturday I was part of a discussion at our Synod Council meeting where we weighed a number of financial issues with how we relate to each other and tried to discern what we should be doing.&nbsp; Over the last couple of years many branches have been dealing with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pcusa.org\/news\/2010\/3\/3\/gamc-approves-guidelines-decision-making\/\">cutting of costs<\/a>  and\/or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/byfaithonline.com\/page\/pca-news\/ga-affirms-2010-strategic-plan\">enhancing revenue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well, along these lines the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.ca\">Presbyterian Church in Canada<\/a>  yesterday released a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.ca\/pcconnect\/daily\/5449\">plan to reorganize<\/a>  their national office. It calls for a combining of their congregational ministries resource unit, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.ca\/thevine\">The Vine<\/a>, with their national ministries unit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.ca\/canadaministries\">Canada Ministries<\/a>.&nbsp; The reorganization will also have financial management for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.ca\/lma\" target=\"_blank\">Life and Mission Agency<\/a>  centrally administered.&nbsp; The former will result in a reduction in workforce of one executive and one support staff position while the latter will not affect staffing levels but will free up staff for other work.&nbsp; The press release also notes the reorganization of duties in other units that will result in a reduction of three full-time equivalent positions.&nbsp; Of the total of five positions eliminated two will be through retirements.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: <a href=\"http:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/emmaus\/blog\/national-reorganization\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reaction from the Emmaus Project<\/a>  <strike>which is part of the combined ministries<\/strike>. Update to the Update: Not part of those agencies, see the note in the comments.<\/p>\n<p>The press release closes with this &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The management team expresses its appreciation of all staff who have lived with the knowledge that a reorganization is underway at the national office. These changes have not been without pain and stress and we regret that several good colleagues will be leaving the national office.
