On the one hand, the General Synod of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bpc.org\">Bible Presbyterian Church<\/a> opens today at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryderchurch.org\/\">Ryder Memorial Presbyterian Church<\/a> in Bluff City, Tennessee.&nbsp; And while it is great to have another one of the highest governing bodies in a Presbyterian branch meeting, this meeting does mark the end of the &#8220;GA Season&#8221; for this year.&nbsp; But on to the business at hand:<\/p>\n<p>The 73rd General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church Will be meeting from August 6 to 11 with the theme &#8220;The Sweetness of Prayer.&#8221;&nbsp; In addition, many of the keynote talks and preaching will also celebrate the 500th anniversary of John Calvin&#8217;s birth.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Synod <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bpc.org\/news\/?p=1\">web page<\/a><\/li>\n<li>General Synod <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bpc.org\/news\/?cat=3\">news page<\/a> with RSS feed<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bpc.org\/news\/synod\/synod\/2009\/2009SynodDocket.pdf\">Docket<\/a> (more of a schedule with times of meetings but not the specific business at those times)<\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bpc.org\/about\/government\/government.html\">Form of Government<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ryder Memorial Presbyterian Church is planning some of the programs for the Synod including a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryderchurch.org\/bpcgeneralsynod\/ladiesday.html\">Ladies Day<\/a> on Friday August 7 and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryderchurch.org\/bpcgeneralsynod\/familyday.html\">Family Day<\/a> on Saturday August 8.&nbsp; As this suggests, the business of the Synod on Saturday is the participation with the families and on Sunday is worship and celebration appropriate for the Lord&#8217;s Day, including a memorial service.&nbsp; Looking at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryderchurch.org\/directions.html\">directions to the church<\/a> I have now placed it on locations to visit because of its location well into the Cherokee National Forest.&nbsp; It looks like a wonderful location.<\/p>\n<p>At the present time I have not found anyone providing either blog or twitter updates beyond the official news reports.&nbsp; I&#8217;ll update here if I find anything new.&nbsp; There is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterianmissions.org\/the-sweetness-of-prayer\/\">mention made<\/a> of the Synod on the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/presbyterianmissions.org\">Presbytery Missionary Union web site<\/a> so that may be a source of additional information as well.<\/p>\n<p>So my prayers are with the commissioners to the BPC General Synod and I look forward to word of your deliberations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the GA Junkie today comes with mixed emotions.&nbsp;
