{"id":723,"date":"2008-10-02T15:19:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-02T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=723"},"modified":"2008-10-02T15:19:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-02T22:19:00","slug":"watching-the-pittsburgh-pjc-trial-and-inaccurate-media-headlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/?p=723","title":{"rendered":"Watching the Pittsburgh PJC Trial and Inaccurate Media Headlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is way too much to watch at the moment with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.presbyterian.org.nz\/4909.0.html\">GA of the PCANZ<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/krusekronicle.typepad.com\/kruse_kronicle\/2008\/09\/presbyfest-and-missional-presbyterians.html\">Presbyfest<\/a> in the news at the moment, but the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pghpresbytery.org\/\">Pittsburgh Presbytery<\/a> trial, or re-trial, of the Rev. Janet Edwards got underway yesterday and it is reasonable to expect a decision today.&nbsp; (If you want background on this you can check out <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.gajunkie.com\/2008\/08\/22\/closely-watched-judicial-cases-affecting-the-pcusa-scheduled-for-october.aspx\">my previous post on the case<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll keep watching for a decision, but while watching I noticed that several news outlets have gotten good stories out, such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.post-gazette.com\/pg\/08275\/916517-100.stm\">Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kdka.com\/local\/minister.trial.Edwards.2.830146.html\">KDKA<\/a>, among others.&nbsp; But I must take issue with the news story, particularly the headline, in the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pittsburghlive.com\/x\/pittsburghtrib\/news\/cityregion\/s_591174.html\">Pittsburgh Tribune-Review<\/a>.&nbsp; The headline is:<br \/><center>State Court Backs Presbyterian Minister<\/center><br \/>If you read the article you find that this is not even close to the truth.&nbsp; The real story is that a <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">former<\/span> State Superior Court <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">judge<\/span>, Justin M. Johnson, testified in the Rev. Edwards&#8217; defense that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
