The Presbyterian Church in Canada is currently in the process of selecting a General Assembly Moderator to preside over the Assembly in June. The announcement appears on the front page of their web site and from the brief description it appears that they have a process similar to the PC Ireland where each presbytery votes in advance. However, the presbyteries do not vote on the same day and the ballots get returned and counted at the national office with the results announced on April 2. In addition, there are nominees on a ballot as opposed to the wide-open nominations from the floor of each presbytery that the PC Ireland uses.
There is not much that I can find on the PC Canada web site about the process but the Biographies of the Nominees are posted there. There are four parish ministers and one elder employed in denominational work. In terms of diversity, there are four men and one women. Briefly from the web site, they are:
The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Chenard, minister, Iona Presbyterian Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
The Rev. Dr. Laurence DeWolfe, minister, Church of St. David, Halifax, Nova Scotia
The Rev. Dr. Hans Kouwenberg, minister, Calvin Presbyterian Church, Abbotsford, British Columbia
The Rev. Murdo Marple, minister, Knox Presbyterian Church, Calgary, Alberta
Mr. David Phillips, elder, St. Andrew’s-Chalmers, Uxbridge, Ontario
